As an organisation we support three campaigns each year and encourage customers and staff to get involved as much as possible.
The next campaign we want to draw your attention to is Mental Health Awareness Week from 13-19th May. The theme of this week is body image.
The Mental Health Foundation’s research found that last year 30% of all adults have felt so stressed by body image and appearance that they felt overwhelmed or unable to cope. However, we are going to turn this around a bit and focus on positive body image for the week and have included below a number of resources that we would encourage you to use.
Some of our customers have physical limitations yet manage to do so much and have a great quality of life, some people have experienced ill health or physical setbacks which affect how they view their bodies, for others body image is about losing weight or getting a bit fitter. Whatever you connect to the two words `body image’, we would be glad to hear from you.
1. Posters – please put these up around your office or scheme and use them to discuss with staff and customers the issues around body image - https://www.mentalhealth.org.uk/campaigns/mental-health-awareness-week/resources/posters
2. Let us know if you plan to arrange any activities during the week – this could be anything from a discussion with customers about the subject to activities that you have already planned that would fit with the theme
3. Make use of the #BeBodyKind hashtag and take a photo or write in the box of a time or a place where you felt comfortable in your own skin.
